Today the weather felt extremely hot like the air itself was heavy and burning. Even inside the house, there was no escape from the heat. This heatwave was expecting to last until June. My kids were restless, sweating, and struggling to sleep. I could see it clearly: they were uncomfortable, and I just couldn’t ignore it.

We didn’t want to keep the air-conditioner running all day because of the electricity bill, but more importantly, I wanted to show them something simple, unique and fun.

So I decided to try a DIY air cooler fan, something I learned that can turn an ordinary fan into a “cooling breeze” like a mini aircond using just ice and simple materials.

It wasn’t just about cooling the room. It was about being a father and doing something with my own hands for my children.

DIY Air Cooler Fan (Simple Home Method)

This is a very easy homemade cooling trick you can try when the weather gets too hot.

What you need:

  • 2 empty plastic bottles
  • A sharp knife or scissors
  • A hot nail or tool to make holes
  • Wire or strong string
  • Ice cubes
  • A standing or table fan

How to Make It

1. Prepare the bottles

Take two empty plastic bottles. Cut the bottom part of the bottles slightly, do not cut it off completely. Just make an opening like a flap or door.

2. Make air holes

Carefully poke small holes in the bottles using a heated nail or any safe sharp tool. These holes will help release cool air later.

3. Attach to the fan

Use wire or string to tie the bottles securely at the back of the fan. Make sure they are stable and won’t fall when the fan is running.

4. Add ice inside

Fill the bottles halfway with ice cubes. This is the “heart” of the cooling system.

5. Turn on the fan

Switch on the fan. As the air passes through the ice-filled bottles, it becomes cooler and more refreshing!

❄️ The Result

The first time I turned it on, I saw my kids smile.

The air was not as cold as an air-conditioner, but it was noticeably cooler and more comfortable. The heat in the room slowly felt lighter.

And for a moment, it felt like I had done something small—but meaningful—for them.

⏳ Maintenance Tip

When the ice melts:

  • Open the bottle cap
  • Pour out the water
  • Refill with fresh ice cubes

Each refill can last around 3–4 hours of cooling comfort.

❤️More Than Just Cooling

This simple DIY wasn’t really about beating the heat. It was about love. About a father trying his best with what he has.

About turning a hot, tiring day into something a little more bearable for his children.

Sometimes, they won’t remember the fan…

But I hope they remember that I tried.
