He gave me a ride home from KL after work at 10pm, and brought me a club sandwich as dinner because it was the easiest to eat in the car.

I know the thumbnail photo looks ugly, like really ugly. It's the actual photo of the club sandwich that I quietly ate as I sat in the passenger seat of my dad's care on the way home from work that very day that I worked late.

But my dad's biggest gift to me wasn't about the ride or the sandwich. It was the silent availability that had been offered to me for my entire life, even when I didn't know how to appreciate it.

It's knowing that whenever I need my dad, he's around. If I need a ride home after a long day, I can call my dad.

If I need advice on which investment choices to make, I can call my dad.

If I'm an emotional wreck and need a shoulder to cry on, I can call my dad.

If I'm in trouble and I don't know what to do, I. CAN. CALL. MY. DAD.

No buts, no ifs, he will, and has always shown up because I needed him. It's the ever-solid, evergreen, silent but endearing strength of a dad's love. Life will always be full of uncertainties, but a dad's love will always be certain, and it will never run away from life's biggest challenges.

Throughout the ride home, I was too exhausted and hungry to talk about anything else with him. He understood though I never said a word.

In that moment, I was most grateful to my dad - we aren't rich but we've always had everything we needed. I couldn't care less about what I'll inherit because he's given me any daughter's greatest gift while he's still alive, and will continue to do so.

Love you, dad.
