Restoration work on a railway bridge between the Kathua and Madhopur rail section, damaged during flash floods and heavy rain in August last year, is nearing completion.
“The restoration work on railway bridge number 17, located between Kathua and Madhopur, is nearing completion. After the work is completed, the down line will be restarted from June. Earlier, due to repair work on the bridge, only the up line was operational. Once both tracks are fit, rail traffic will run smoothly and efficiently,” an official said.
Interlocking work on the section will be completed on May 31, following which train movement on both the up and down lines will resume normally from June.
Major cancelled trains to be restored from June include train numbers 12549, 12550, 19415, 19416, 20847, 20848, 20985, 20986, 22941, 22942, 12207, 12208, 14611, 19107, 19108, 22705 and 22706, among others.
The spokesperson said despite technical challenges, railway engineers worked round the clock to make the bridge stronger than before.
“The restoration of the track will ease movement for passengers travelling to Jammu, Katra and Vaishno Devi, besides facilitating freight transport, commercial activity and military logistics. All trains will run as per their scheduled timings, routes and halts,” he said.
