Kayak athlete badly injured after crash with alleged drunk driver

A FEMALE kayak athlete was seriously injured when a suspected drunk driver crashed into her motorcycle  last week at the Johor Baru Eastern Dispersal Link Highway .

She was reported to have been dragged about 600 metres on the road, said JohorPost Facebook.

Siti Nurul Masyitah Elias, 22, a mechanical engineering student at Politeknik Ibrahim Sultan, was headed towards Southkey when the crash occurred.

Johor Baru South police chief Raub Selamat confirmed the incident.

A statement from the student association said Siti Nurul was admitted to the Columbia Asia Hospital in Iskandar Puteri.

It said dashcam footage showed the car was being driven in a reckless manner when it hit and dragged her on the road before it came to a stop.

"Siti Nurul Masyitah frequently travels from the polytechnic in Pasir Gudang to her home to care for her ailing parents.

"Her mother suffers from spinal issues after an accident, and her father is in poor health and requires dialysis.

"We urge everyone to pray for her swift recovery and ease," read the statement.

Pictures, including an image of the alleged drunken driver, and video footage of the accident have gone viral on social media
