A defamation suit by KDA FC’s majority owner against the Kedah MB’s press secretary will proceed to trial after mediation talks fail

ALOR SETAR: A defamation lawsuit filed by Kedah Darul Aman FC majority owner Tan Sri Dr Mohd Daud Bakar (pic) will now proceed to trial.

The case against Kedah Menteri Besar’s Press Secretary, Muhamad Mat Yakim, will go ahead after mediation efforts failed to reach a settlement.

Lawyer Ashraf Sohaimi, representing Mohd Daud, confirmed the unsuccessful mediation at the Alor Setar Court Mediation Centre.

“The mediation was unsuccessful and the case will now proceed to trial,” he told reporters.

He added that the trial is scheduled for July, although an exact date has not been fixed.

The mediation session lasted nearly two hours and was attended by both parties.

Mohd Daud and Muhamad were present, with the latter accompanied by his lawyer, Abdul Hadi Ahmad.

The suit was filed last October over a statement posted on Muhamad’s Facebook page.

Mohd Daud alleges the June 29 post contained inaccurate information regarding the ownership of Kedah Darul Aman FC.

He is seeking general, aggravated and exemplary damages, as well as compensation from the sole defendant.
