SHAH ALAM, April 8 — Nearly 100 tonnes of waste have been cleared from residential areas affected by the Petronas gas pipeline explosion in Putra Heights.
KDEB Waste Management (KDEBWM) managing director Dato’ Ramli Tahir said the firm has been collecting domestic and bulk waste since day two of the incident until yesterday, hauling away 12 to 18 tonnes daily.
Ramli said roll-on-roll-off (roro) bins were sent to Taman Harmoni and Kampung Kuala Sungai Baru yesterday to help victims with cleanup work.
“We were made to understand that victims have gone home to carry out repairs, so we provided roro bins to collect bulk waste such as burnt furniture.
“Workers have been allowed into the location since day two of the incident, but in limited numbers … about 50 workers for cleanup work,” he told Media Selangor.
He added that a mega-cleanup will be done with several parties, including Selangor Volunteers (SERVE), Team Selangor, and the Subang Jaya City Council.
“We are waiting for all victims to clean their homes first, then we will bring all our assets, including a compactor truck, stagnant water pump, and pressure washers,” he said.
In the April 1 incident, the Petronas gas pipeline on Jalan Putra Harmoni, Putra Heights, exploded due to a leak, causing a massive fire. Flames plumed over 30m into the sky and took nearly eight hours to extinguish.
The blast left a crater nearly 10m deep and 500sqm in area.
