RAWANG, June 11 — The Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry (KPDN) seized 2,120 bottles of laundry detergent, suspected to be counterfeit, in a raid on a factory today.

Selangor KPDN chief enforcement officer Mohd Hanizam Kechek said the 2pm raid was a result of two weeks of intelligence gathered on the premises, which is believed to have been used as a storage for counterfeit goods.

“Upon inspection, the team found that the laundry detergent used a well-known brand label without permission, with the total value of the seizure estimated at RM29,680,” he told the press after the operation.

Hanizam added that the product is believed to be targeted at the Klang Valley market and sold at a lower price than the genuine item, and that the factory is believed to have been operating for eight months.

The case is being investigated under Section 102(c) of the Trademarks Act 2019, and the seized items will be taken to the KPDN’s storage facility.

“The owner of the premises will be called up to assist in the investigation. The original brand owner will also cooperate with KPDN in our investigation,” he said.

A Bernama survey at the site of the raid found that the 3.6 kg bottles of laundry detergents had been packed and were ready for distribution.
