Kedah flood victims in Yan now total 202 across three relief centres, with SK Teroi housing the most. In Perlis, 16 people remain at Dewan Batu 5 in Kangar.
KUALA LUMPUR: The number of flood victims sheltering at temporary relief centres in Kedah rose to 202 people from 69 families as of 8 am today, up from 192 evacuees from 67 families recorded yesterday evening.
The State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) Secretariat said all the victims from Yan are placed at three relief centres.
A total of 101 evacuees from 29 families are taking shelter at Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Teroi; 43 victims from 22 families are housed at Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan Cina (SJKC) Pei Eng; and 58 people from 18 families are placed at Dewan Lestari Guar Chempedak.
In Perlis, Dewan Batu 5 in Kangar is still operating as a transit centre, with the number of flash flood victims from Kampung Telok rising slightly to 16 people from seven families as of this morning, compared with 12 people from four families yesterday evening.
Perlis Civil Defence Force (APM) director Lt Col (PA) Mohd Izaimi Md Daud said the slight increase was due to stagnant floodwaters that remained trapped and could not drain away, despite no rainfall being recorded as of this morning.
Earlier, Mohd Izaimi was reported to have said that the hall was opened at 1.50 am yesterday and has yet to be officially declared a temporary relief centre.
