A trio of onlookers in Kedah prevented a three-year-old girl from being abducted when they stopped a man from Nepal who was attempting to take her away.
A picture that has been making the rounds on X purports to show the Nepali man cradling the young girl in his arms as he turned to leave.
However, a group of bystanders soon realized he was up to no good and stopped him, foiling his attempt to kidnap the girl.
The Nepali man was seen in a one-minute video being surrounded by onlookers who cooperated to prevent him from fleeing.
Additionally, they were seen beating up the man from Nepal, with one of them kicking him in the face.
Assistant Commissioner Zaidy Che Hassan, the chief of Kuala Muda district police, stated in a statement that Jeniang Police Station staff members received a call from the public regarding the incident at 7:20 a.m. on yesterday, Nov. 26, according to Astro Awani.
According to the results of preliminary inquiries, the child’s father had left her on the motorcycle and gone to pick up his food.
After grabbing the child, the suspect is said to have hurriedly approached her and backed away while angling a knife at her neck.
The victim’s father was in front of the suspect at the time, when he asked him for money for food in an incomprehensible language that was thought to be Nepali.
The suspect was later turned over to the police, he said.
“While the victim’s father tried to calm the child and persuade the suspect to return her to him, members of the public who witnessed the incident managed to grab the suspect from behind and apprehend him,“ he said.
Zaidy went on to say that the Nepali man had fled from a factory where he was employed a month prior, and his employer had reported him to the police on Nov 8.
