Kedah take over Penang? That’s unconstitutional: Anwar

BALIK PULAU – There is no way for Kedah to take over Penang as it is unconstitutional, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

The attorney-general and even the Malay rulers’ council have discussed and decided that Penang is part of the federated states, he said.

Anwar stressed that a certain leader in Kedah needs to be careful when speaking over such issues.

It is pointless to dwell on such matters, as there are more important things to pursue, from righting the wrongs of the previous administration to fighting living costs and poverty, Anwar said after meeting the community at the Barat Daya mosque here.

Anwar also said that under his stewardship, the government plans to stop corruption at all costs and to curb wastage.

“I have directed police, the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission, and the Inland Revenue Board to do their job and haul up whoever is corrupt regardless of who the person is,” Anwar said.

He cited an example where previous prime ministers have spent up to RM38 million to renovate Seri Perdana, the prime minister’s official residence.

“Under me, not a single sen was spent, as it is the rakyat’s money. We need to be thrifty.”

Anwar said that soon, this hard work would materialise in the aid that is expected to be channelled to fishermen, farmers, youth, and the hardcore poor.

Additionally, he wants the people to differentiate good ulama from those who do not appear to have the best intentions.

“Like anybody in life, there are good or bad people (among them),” he said in urging the people to be careful with PAS, despite the Islamic image it portrays. – The Vibes, June 11, 2023
