Kedah will hold special Istisqa’ prayers statewide on Thursday, seeking relief from prolonged hot weather affecting several districts
ALOR SETAR: Special Istisqa’ prayers will be held simultaneously across Kedah this Thursday to seek rain following prolonged hot weather. State Housing, Local Government and Health Committee chairman Mansor Zakaria announced the initiative today.
The prayers will be organised by respective district religious offices at suitable times. “The prayers are being held following the hot weather in the state,” Mansor told reporters at Istana Anak Bukit.
Several districts are currently at a level two heatwave. Maximum daily temperatures have reached between 37 and 40 degrees Celsius.
“So far, cloud seeding is being carried out at the federal level, but not yet at the state level, so we are organising these special prayers,” he explained. Each district will arrange its own venue for the Thursday prayers.
Mansor advised the public to take precautionary measures during the hot spell. He specifically mentioned reducing outdoor activities like visiting during Hari Raya, open house events, cycling and sports.
All district health offices and hospitals in Kedah are on alert for heat-related cases. No cases of heatstroke have been recorded in the state so far.
Previously, districts including Pendang, Pokok Sena and Baling were reported at level two. The Malaysian Meteorological Department said 15 areas in Peninsular Malaysia were at level one alert.
These areas recorded maximum daily temperatures between 35 and 37 degrees Celsius.
