PETALING JAYA: A Sarawak deputy minister has urged Anwar Ibrahim’s government to keep Pakatan Harapan’s (PH) pledge to return the East Malaysian state its autonomy on health and education.

Deputy education, innovation and talent development minister Dr Annuar Rapaee hoped that the new government would do this since Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS), the ruling coalition in the state, was part of it.

Annuar pointed out that PH had pledged the decentralisation of powers to Sabah and Sarawak, including giving them autonomy over health and education matters.

“We hope that this will become a reality in the near future,” the Dayak Daily quoted him as saying.

The 23 GPS MPs are part of the unity government led by Anwar, the PH chairman.

Anwar was sworn in as the 10th prime minister yesterday.
