Kelantan assembly to dissolve on June 22: MB

KUALA LUMPUR – The Kelantan state legislative assembly will be dissolved on June 22 to make way for a state election, Menteri Besar Datuk Ahmad Yakob said today.

Kelantan ruler Sultan Muhammad V has consented to the dissolution, Bernama reported him saying.

“Today, I declare the dissolution of the Kelantan state assembly for the 14th term after obtaining the approval of the Kelantan sultan in accordance with Clause 2 Article 46 of the state constitution.

“Thus, the Kelantan sultan has agreed to dissolve the assembly on June 22,” Ahmad told a press conference after the state executive council meeting in Kota Baru today.

A notice of dissolution will be sent to inform the Election Commission, which will then fix dates for polling.

Perikatan Nasional (PN)-led Kelantan is one of six states to hold elections this year. Other PN states due to hold polls are Kedah and Terengganu.

Three Pakatan Harapan (PH) states also due to hold elections this year are Selangor, Penang and Negri Sembilan.

Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow in an interview with The Star predicted that the elections will be held in August

He will be proposing the dissolution of Penang’s assembly on June 28 when he meets Penang Governor Tun Ahmad Fuzi Abdul Razak on June 27. Penang’s assembly will automatically expire on August 2.

Selangor’s legislative assembly will automatically expire on June 25, while Terengganu’s legislature is to expire on June 30, Kedah on July 3, and Negri Sembilan on July 1. – The Vibes, June 14, 2023
