The Kelantan division of the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs (KPDN) has taken charge of supervising the sale of dates believed to be sourced from Israel, commonly known as Israeli dates, within the state.

Azman Ismail, the director of Kelantan KPDN, stated that thus far, no reports or grievances concerning this matter have been received. He emphasized that routine surveillance will be conducted at Ramadan bazaars to ensure compliance.

"In cases where the packaging of the dates is tampered with, appropriate measures will be implemented as it can lead to confusion among consumers. We encourage individuals with relevant information to step forward and report any instances," he informed the press during a briefing held in the locality.

Previously, there had been widespread dissemination of information suggesting that a particular establishment was retailing dates imported from Israel during the holy month of Ramadan. This sparked concerns and prompted swift action from authorities to address the issue and uphold consumer trust and welfare.

The procurement and sale of goods, particularly during significant religious observances like Ramadan, are subject to heightened scrutiny to safeguard against fraudulent practices and uphold religious sensitivities. The purported sale of Israeli dates in the region has drawn attention due to the ongoing geopolitical tensions and the sensitivities surrounding products originating from Israel.

In light of these circumstances, the Kelantan KPDN is committed to ensuring that all vendors adhere to regulations and uphold ethical standards in their business practices. The department pledges to investigate any reported cases diligently and take appropriate actions to rectify any violations found.

Furthermore, consumers are urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities or products to the relevant authorities promptly. This collaborative effort between the authorities and the public is crucial in maintaining transparency and integrity in the marketplace, especially during times of heightened religious significance.

As Ramadan approaches, it is essential for consumers to be assured of the authenticity and quality of the products they purchase, particularly items central to the observance of the holy month, such as dates. The Kelantan KPDN remains committed to safeguarding consumer interests and ensuring a fair and transparent marketplace for all.
