POLICE in Kelantan are continuing their investigation into a collision involving a Road Transport Department (JPJ) vehicle and a Perodua Myvi in Tanah Merah last Friday, which tragically claimed the life of a 25-year-old man.
Kelantan Police Chief, Datuk Mohd Yusoff Mamat, said investigators are awaiting chemical analysis reports related to the case.
“At the same time, we are also waiting for the autopsy results of the victim and the report from the Computerised Vehicle Inspection Centre (PUSPAKOM),” he told reporters today.
“The case will be referred to the Deputy Public Prosecutor for further instructions once the investigation is completed.”
Earlier media reports noted that the Director of JPJ Kelantan, Mohd Misuari Abdullah, denied claims circulating on social media suggesting that the department’s vehicle was at fault in the collision.
Preliminary investigations by Tanah Merah District Police Chief, Superintendent Mohd Haki Hasbullah, indicated that the JPJ vehicle was on patrol from Bukit Bunga towards Jeli when the Perodua Myvi, driven by the victim, reportedly veered into the JPJ vehicle’s lane, triggering the accident at around 4.30pm last Friday.
The deceased has been identified as Mursyid Azmi, son of Astro Awani senior editor Husna Yusop.
Husna told reporters that her 19-year-old daughter, Madiha, who was injured in the accident, remains under treatment at Tanah Merah Hospital.
“Madiha has fractures in both legs and requires internal fixation. The right leg was operated on 22 March, and the other will undergo surgery today. She is still receiving care at HTM, and I hope her treatment proceeds smoothly,” Husna said.
Her younger child, 17-year-old Mumtaz, sustained only minor injuries in the incident. - March 29, 2026
