KOTA BARU – The Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry in Kelantan seized 2.72 tonnes of subsidised cooking oil in 1kg packets here yesterday, through an integrated operation that involved Zone Three Marine Police units from Pengkalan Kubor and Tok Bali.
Kelantan ministry chief enforcement officer Aswadi Jaafar said that during the operation carried out at about 3pm yesterday, a suspicious-looking Isuzu lorry loaded with subsidised cooking oil was heading to Peringat from Pauh Lima.
“Investigations revealed that the lorry was loaded with subsidised cooking oil packets. The driver of the lorry and his assistant failed to produce any valid documents. Both suspects were ordered to show documents but had no relevant papers.
“The two suspects, in their 40s and 50s, were detained and the case will be investigated under the Control of Supplies Act 1961,” he said in a statement here today.
Aswadi said the modus operandi of the suspects was to transport the subsidised items to an illegal transit store along the border of the country. – Bernama, August 17, 2022
