Keningau girls clinch maiden title

KUNAK: Keningau girls won the Under-12 title for the first time at the Sabah School Sports Council State Hockey Tournament held in Kunak recently.

The girls who have twice come second in 2019 and 2020, and finished in third place last year defeated Kota Belud 2-0 in the final.

They were unbeaten throughout the competition. In the group stages they topped the table with wins over Papar 2-0 and Sipitang 2-0 followed by 2-1 win over Kota Kinabalu in round 16 before beating Tawau 2-1 in the quarter-final and defending champions Tenom in the last four.

Coach Stanley Ian Junaidi congratulated the players and said the success was due to the commitment of all the teachers involved.

Meanwhile, three members of the team were also named the best spiker, best setter and best server in the tournament.
