
KENINGAU: The Keningau Under-12 rugby team emerged champions for the third time at the Sabah School Sports Council (MSSS) tournament which took place at the Likas Rugby Stadium, Kota Kinabalu recently.
Keningau Sports Development Techniques (PTPS) Chairman Ruddy Daupin said that the Keningau district team had recorded a successful victory (27-7) against the beaten team (runners-up) in the final as well as recording a hat-trick with wins in 2022, 2023 and 2024.
“Thank you to the Keningau District Education Office (PPD) as well as to all the managers and those involved in the tournament and the 12-year-old rugby players who worked hard made this dream come true,” he said.
“As the PTPS Rugby of the Keningau district and as a Rugby activist in Keningau, I am very moved by the positive development of rugby that has hit the interior in general and in Keningau in particular,” he added.

Read more He explained that from a district where there were only three or four schools participating in the rugby competition before, now many rugby teams have participated in the rugby tournament.
Meanwhile, team manager Rozy Yanty C Madis extended million thanks to those who gave sincere donations in the form of T-shirts and money for the rugby team.
“The donation really helped to ease our burden to get enough accommodation, food and drink and medicine for the players. Thank you all for your continued support to the Keningau Under-12 rugby team,” said Rozy.
He added that this year Keningau’s Under-12 rugby team also won two awards – Best Backline Player and the Best Forward Player, respectively won by Jasline Juslin from SK Kebulu, Keningau and Mohammad Jesrin Jairin from SK Kampung Biah, Keningau.
A total of 15 teams participated in the tournament where Beluran and Tawau emerged runners-up and third placed team respectively.
