In Kepong, an unsettling incident unfolded recently, leading to the arrest of four policemen involved in an extortion case within an apartment complex. The city's police chief, Datuk Allaudeen Abdul Majid, confirmed the arrest following a report filed on Jan 4. These officers, aged between 28 and 41, are under investigation for their alleged involvement in the case, which falls under Section 384 of the Penal Code.
What adds more concern to this issue is the reluctance of these officers to accept police reports from the public, prompting an inquiry by the Kuala Lumpur Integrity and Standard Compliance Department (JIPS). Allaudeen stressed that the authorities are taking strict action against this refusal to accept reports.
The incident came to light when Danny Goh was intercepted by four policemen in Kepong on Dec 23. They allegedly accused him of illegal activities based on data found on his phone, demanding RM10,000 as compensation to resolve the matter. After an initial payment of RM1,000 and the subsequent transfer of RM9,000 in cash, Goh sought help from Lim Lip Eng's assistant, Dic Lai, to file a police report.
However, complications arose as the Sentul and Dang Wangi district police headquarters allegedly refused to accept Goh's report due to the payment made. It took several attempts before Goh could successfully file the report, eventually identifying three out of the four involved policemen.
Lai highlighted that despite the officers' attempts to return the extorted money after realizing an impending investigation, the reluctance to accept the report persisted. Investigations into this matter are ongoing at both Bukit Aman and the Sentul district police headquarters.
The public has been urged not to engage in speculative discussions that might hinder the investigation or raise unnecessary concerns. The gravity of this incident reflects not only on the alleged extortion but also on the concerning aspect of police officers refusing to accept legitimate reports from the public.
