Keris Strike 2025: Public urged to stay calm amid joint military drills in Perak

THE Malaysian Army has called on the public to remain calm and not be alarmed by the presence of foreign troops or increased military activity in parts of Perak during Exercise KERIS STRIKE 2025, a joint exercise involving the United States and Australian armies.

The annual 14-day military drill, which begins next Thursday and runs until 30 July, will be conducted across multiple locations including Ipoh, Sungai Siput, Kuala Kangsar, and Lenggong, according to a statement issued by the Malaysian Army Public Relations Cell.

“This exercise aims to strengthen joint operational capabilities and deepen military cooperation between Malaysia and its defence partners,” the statement read.

“It also enhances the Malaysian Army’s preparedness in responding to regional security threats.”

Residents in the affected areas—particularly Ipoh and Kuala Kangsar—are advised not to be alarmed by the sight of foreign personnel, military vehicles, convoys, or other operational movements throughout the duration of the exercise.

Exercise KERIS STRIKE forms a key part of Malaysia’s ongoing defence diplomacy efforts and its commitment to regional peace and stability through multilateral engagement and interoperability training. - July 13, 2025
