KESUMA is reviewing a maternity leave allowance proposal under PERKESO, which could benefit over 100,000 mothers nationwide.

SUBANG: The Ministry of Human Resources is reviewing a proposal to introduce a maternity leave assistance allowance through the Social Security Organisation.

Minister Datuk Seri R. Ramanan said the proposed allowance, to be implemented under PERKESO’s insurance system, is expected to benefit more than 100,000 mothers nationwide.

“Women are not only contributors but also key drivers of the national economy,” he said at a KESUMA Labour Day 2026 programme.

He added that the ministry is developing further measures to enhance workers’ welfare for staged implementation.

The programme was attended by about 500 participants as a platform to strengthen government, employer and worker cooperation.

In a separate statement, Ramanan said he had an audience with the Sultan of Terengganu to present updates on a PERKESO Rehabilitation Centre project in the state.

He said the project is expected to strengthen the national social security system.

It will support the rehabilitation and return to work of contributors who are injured or disabled.

The centre will provide comprehensive and integrated rehabilitation services in line with expanding access to quality healthcare and social protection.

Ramanan expressed commitment to ensuring the project is implemented as planned to benefit workers.
