In a recent operation, a total of six individuals, including five police officers, were apprehended while in the process of producing ketum water at a residence in Alor Gajah. The Melaka police chief, Datuk Zainol Samah, revealed that the suspects, ranging in age from 31 to 55, were taken into custody by a joint team comprising officers and members from Bukit Aman’s Department of Integrity and Standards Compliance (JIPS) around 11:30 PM.

The raid resulted in the confiscation of 5.2 liters of ketum water, stored in various bottles and wrapped in plastic. Additionally, a pair of Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) operational uniforms and a bowl were seized as part of the evidence.

Of notable concern is the fact that two of the arrested individuals hold senior positions within the police force. Zainol Samah emphasized the commitment to conducting a transparent investigation and ensuring that no compromise would be made if any police officer is found to be in breach of discipline. The arrested officers are associated with the Melaka contingent police headquarters (IPK), and the authorities are determined to address the issue without compromising the reputation of the PDRM.

Highlighting the ongoing efforts to eradicate negative elements within the police force, the police chief stated that such operations aim to prevent the spread of undesirable activities. The objective is to take decisive action against police officers engaged in activities that could tarnish the credibility and trust the community places in the PDRM.

The impending remand application for the six suspects, scheduled for today, marks the next phase in the legal process. The case is set to be investigated under Section 30(2) of the Poisons Act 1952, with potential penalties outlined in Section 30(5) of the same law.

This incident underscores the importance of maintaining the integrity of law enforcement agencies and holding those in positions of authority accountable for their actions. The commitment to transparency and accountability in the investigation reflects the broader efforts to uphold public trust in the police force and root out any elements that may compromise its standing within the community.
