Kota Kinabalu: The Sabah Government will resubmit a proposed flood mitigation project for Kampung Kauran in Keningau under Rolling Plan 3 (RP3) of the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP) after it did not receive funding approval.
Assistant Agriculture, Fisheries and Food Industry Minister Datuk Ruslan Muharam (pic) said the Sabah Department of Irrigation and Drainage (DID) had identified the need for flood mitigation works in Kampung Kauran, Kampung Banjar, Kampung Muhibbah and Kampung Bakiau, which are frequently affected by flash floods.
He said the proposal, initially submitted under the 13MP, would be resubmitted for Federal Government consideration, subject to priorities and allocation approval, while Sabah DID would continue monitoring the affected areas and carry out periodic river and drainage maintenance to improve water flow and reduce flood risks.
Ruslan said the department would also continue working with the Keningau District Office, the Public Works Department, local authorities and relevant agencies to coordinate flood mitigation measures based on on-site requirements.
Responding to a supplementary question from Senallang assemblyman Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal, who suggested using part of the RM600 million received from the RM1.5 billion interim special grant to address flooding, Ruslan said all funds channelled to the State Government would be used to meet the needs of the people.
