KOTA KINABALU: The Sabah Government Teachers’ Union (KGKS) has expressed full support for the proposal to reintroduce caning as a disciplinary measure in schools.
KGKS President Murkam Hj Hussien said in a statement on Monday that the recent incident of rape involving students in Melaka highlights the need for stronger disciplinary tools for teachers.
He said caning was not solely about physical punishment but about helping teachers maintain classroom discipline when dealing with difficult students.
Murkam added that the incident should serve as a wake-up call to both educators and parents to restore respect and order in schools.
He urged the Education Ministry to adopt a firmer approach to student discipline for the wellbeing of both teachers and pupils.
