KOTA KINABALU: The Kian Kok Middle School Alumni Association paid a courtesy call on State Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister Datuk Seri Christina Liew Chin Jin on Tuesday.
The visit was to convey appreciation for her continued support of the Association’s Student Scholarship Programme and to discuss future community collaborations.
Led by acting president Terrance Ting Kok Hau, the alumni team included Edvin Chang and Rex Chong, who also presented a token of appreciation to the Minister.
The gesture recognised her contributions in 2019, 2023 and most recently 2025, which have sustained the scholarship initiative since its launch in 2016.
The programme has supported nine underprivileged students to date, with two completing their full six-year education at Kian Kok Middle School.
The scholarship covers tuition fees, school materials and living expenses to ensure students are not denied education due to financial hardship.
Liew said education is a fundamental right and stressed the importance of investing in nurturing future generations in a rapidly evolving world.
She emphasised that young people are central to Sabah’s cultural, social and economic progress, and that building talent at home is key to long-term development.
The Minister also highlighted the role of alumni associations in supporting communities beyond school grounds, serving as partners and mentors to youth.
She ended the meeting by expressing enthusiasm for future collaboration in youth empowerment and cultural, educational and social development.
