Kota Kinabalu: Sabah’s endemic Kinabalu Birdwing butterfly is a unique asset that can attract enthusiasts and entomologists from around the world, said State Assistant Minister of Tourism, Culture, and Environment, Datuk Joniston Bangkuai.

He made this remark following an event organised by the Kota Kinabalu Rotary Club to commemorate institutions and individuals involved in the successful conservation efforts that led to the Kinabalu Birdwing butterfly being declared Sabah’s state butterfly, Friday.

Joniston said the butterfly, also known as Kalibambang Emas, not only enhances Sabah’s tourism appeal but also promotes conservation tourism by encouraging visitors to appreciate and support the preservation of the state’s unique biodiversity.
