Kota Kinabalu: Kinabalu Jaguar FC (KJFC) beat Imigresen FC 2-1 in the second round of their M3 Group A match at Likas Stadium on Saturday.
It was their fourth consecutive win in the league since their 1-1 away draw to Sains FC on May 14.
The home side started aggressively in the match against their Negeri Sembilan-based opponents whom they defeated 2-1 back in February.
They put the visitors under immense pressure but it wasn’t until the 18th minute that they finally made the breakthrough when a penalty was awarded after Zulkifli Harun was brought down inside the box.
Captain Jenius Karib who took the spot kick made no mistake against Imigresen FC goalkeeper Muhammad Irfan Haikal to score his first goal for the club.
They continued their dominance in the second half and another veteran player, Sabri Sahar managed to extend their lead with a powerful shot from outside the box in the 63rd minute to seal the three points.
KJFC head coach Mohd Aiyyman Johny when contacted was happy the players maintained their winning momentum.
“It was always good to see the players keep their momentum going at home.
“I am obviously very happy with the result and also delighted with the players’ attitude on the pitch.
“They worked hard and their will to win has earned us three valuable points to maintain our position at the top,” he said.
KJFC are currently leading Group A with 25 points from eight wins, one draw and a loss. They next play host to Tun Razak City FC on Tuesday (June 14) before flying to Langkawi on Thursday to face FC Langkawi on Saturday.
