
Kota Kinabalu: A woman seen in a viral video to have allegedly abused a four-year-old child at a kindergarten has been remanded seven days to assist in investigations.
Magistrate Stephanie Sherron Abbie issued a remand order against the 27-year-old woman from Aug 11 to 17.
Kota Kinabalu District Deputy Chief of Police Superintendent Kalsom Idris said investigations are still being conducted against the woman involved under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001 while the father of the child is being investigated under Section 323 of the Penal Code.
“The suspect has been arrested. However, the motive for the incident is still unknown,” he told reporters at the Kota Kinabalu District Police Headquarters (IPD), here, Thursday.

Read more He added that so far three police reports have been received, namely from the mother of the victim, the suspect and also the principal of the kindergarten.
Earlier, Kalsom also advised the public not to spread any more videos related to the case on social media because it can interfere with the investigation and cause annoyance to the public.
Last Wednesday, a two-minute and 12-second closed-circuit video (CCTV) recording showed a woman in a kindergarten kicking, pushing, pulling the hair and hitting the head of the child with a book.
The child’s parents had watched the video and were angered by the woman’s actions of repeatedly beating the child.
