HIS Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, has called for a fundamental modernisation of Malaysia’s defence doctrine, stressing the need for the Armed Forces to adapt to rapid technological change and an increasingly complex global security environment.

Speaking at the Royal Commissioning Parade and Presentation of Commissions Ceremony for Armed Forces cadet officers at Kem Perdana Sungai Besi on Friday, His Majesty said the Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM) must transition towards a “future force” model.

“The global and regional security environment is undergoing rapid, complex and uncertain change,” the King said.

“The future force to be developed must be an integrated force capable of facing Fifth Generation Warfare.”

His Majesty urged the government to prioritise the procurement of advanced defence technology and support structural reforms within the Armed Forces.

“I therefore call on the government to prioritise the procurement of the latest technological equipment and support a new structure for the Malaysian Armed Forces,” he said in a Facebook post today.

A total of 566 cadet officers completed their training and received their commissions during the ceremony held at Dataran Panglima Tentera Darat, Kem Perdana Sungai Besi.

His Majesty, as Supreme Commander of the Malaysian Armed Forces, inspected the parade of cadet officers accompanied by the Armed Forces chief.

Also present were Defence Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin, Armed Forces Chief General Tan Sri Mohd Nizam Jaffar, and the service chiefs of the Army, Navy and Air Force.

During the ceremony, Sultan Ibrahim also presented awards to seven outstanding cadet officers from the Malaysian Armed Forces academies and training institutions, recognising excellence across the Army, Navy and Air Force streams.

The awards included recognition for best overall cadet, as well as top performers from the Army, Navy and Air Force training institutions.

The King’s remarks come amid growing global emphasis on hybrid warfare, cyber capabilities and advanced military technologies that are reshaping modern defence strategies. - June 27, 2026
