  • President Donald Trump has claimed that King Charles “would have probably helped” the United States in the Iran conflict in a fresh dig at Prime Minister Keir Starmer and Nato.
  • Trump was hosting Nasa astronauts at the Oval Office on Wednesday when he was asked about Charles’ historic speech to Congress a day earlier in which the King called for support for Ukraine and prioritizing a strong Nato alliance.
  • “The King is fantastic,” Trump said when asked if the King’s remarks changed his view on Ukraine or Nato. “We spent a lot of time together. We had a lot of talk. We talked about this also, and he loves his country, and he's a great king, and he's a great friend of mine.”
  • Trump went on to say, “And I think if he were doing that, if that were up to him, he would have probably helped us with Iran. ... He would have followed the suggestions we made with respect to Ukraine.”
  • The US president praised Charles’ speeches in front of Congress and at a state dinner, adding, “We had an incredible evening last night ... I think he's a phenomenal representative for his country. I think the people in the United Kingdom should be proud. I loved his speech yesterday. I watched it. I loved the speech last night. I think he's an unbelievable King, and, by the way, an unbelievable queen. They are a great couple.”
