King departs for Moscow to attend Russia’s Victory Day celebrations

HIS Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, has departed for Moscow today following a special invitation from the Government of the Russian Federation to attend the upcoming Victory Day celebrations on 9 May.

According to a statement posted on the King’s official Facebook page, His Majesty’s private aircraft departed from the Royal Hangar at Senai International Airport at 8am.

“The special invitation from President of Russia, Vladimir V Putin to His Majesty to attend the celebration reflects the highest recognition by the Government of Russia towards Malaysia,” the post stated.

Also present at the Royal Hangar to bid farewell to His Majesty were Tunku Temenggong Johor Tunku Idris Iskandar Al-Haj Ibni Sultan Ibrahim and Tunku Putera Johor Tunku Abu Bakar Al-Haj Ibni Sultan Ibrahim.

Among those in attendance were Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi, Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Ismail, Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Director Datuk Seri Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri, and Johor Police Chief Datuk Ab Rahaman Arsad.

Johor state executive council members and senior state government officials were also present at the send-off ceremony.

The visit comes ahead of Russia’s annual Victory Day commemorations, a major national event marking the end of the Second World War in Europe, and is seen as part of ongoing diplomatic engagement between Malaysia and Russia. - May 6, 2026
