His Majesty King of Malaysia, Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Ibrahim has become the proud owner of the special edition “GOLD 1” plate registration number after a winning bid of RM1.5 million.

A plate number befitting a King, the Official Sultan Ibrahim Instagram account today announced that the RM1.5 million bid is the highest-ever amount paid for a number plate in Malaysian history.

The post further shared that His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim granted an audience to Transport Minister Anthony Loke Siew Fook at the Istana Negara today, where the latter symbolically presented the number plate to the King of Malaysia.

Golden jubilee of the Federal Territories

Announced via a press release by the Transport Ministry on 30 January, the GOLD special number plate series was launched in conjunction with the 50th anniversary of the Federal Territories, or its golden jubilee; hence “GOLD”.

Bidding for the special plate number series was done online via the JPJeBid platform from 1 to 5 February. For the golden category, bids start from RM20,000, the attractive category from RM3,000, the popular category from RM800 and the running category from RM300.

Proceeds from the sale of the GOLD special series will be channelled to the Federal Government and will help with the implementation of Transport Minstry’s initiatives such as driving license and helmet aids, as well as the FlySISWA subsidy programme.

The King of Malaysia is also the owner of the “FF1” special plate number

His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim is also the proud owner of the “FF1” special plate number after placing a winning bid of RM1.2 million for the registration number in June 2023.

At that time, the RM1.2 million amount was the highest-ever amount paid for a plate number registration, which the Yang di-Pertuan Agong broke with the winning bid for GOLD 1″

The FF special plate number series garnered a whopping RM35.4 million in revenue for the Federal Government. As of the time of writing, the Transport Ministry has yet to announce the total revenue for the “GOLD” special plate number series.
