KOTA KINABALU: The prolonged water supply disruption affecting some 12,000 residents in the Kingfisher area is believed to be linked to the capacity of the booster pump at the Kingfisher storage tank, which is unable to meet demand, said Darau Assemblyman Azhar Matusin.
Azhar said the issue was raised at the State Legislative Assembly sitting but had yet to be resolved.
“This problem is not a major one. The State Government can resolve it immediately.
“We raised it during the previous State Assembly sitting, but it has still not been resolved,” he said, adding that residents have been experiencing water supply disruptions for the past two to three weeks, affecting their daily routines.
Resident Ivory Chong said the situation was particularly frustrating as water supply would reportedly be restored after complaints were lodged, only for the disruption to recur.
“If we make a complaint, the water automatically comes back. But do we have to call and make a complaint every day just to get water?“This has been going on for two to three weeks. Residents want a solution, not just temporary restoration of supply after complaints are made,” she said.
Another resident, Sepanta Abdul, questioned why an area near the city was still experiencing prolonged water supply problems.
“We are badly affected by the water problem, which is burdening residents throughout the Kingfisher area.
“We live near the city, yet we are still experiencing this problem,” she said.
Meanwhile, Mohd Safian Saludin claimed the Sabah Water Department hotline at 088-232364 was difficult to reach when residents attempted to lodge complaints.
Residents urged the Department to identify the actual cause of the disruption and provide earlier notices whenever technical problems or maintenance works affect supply.
