Two kittens were abandoned in a dog kennel, an act the charity has condemned as dangerous.

Staff at the APAHD (Protection des Animaux de la Haute Durance) rescue centre in Embrun, France, had a nasty shock when they arrived at work on the morning of Monday 23 June 2025.

Two kittens had been callously dumped in the entrance kennel, which is reserved for stray dogs. This incredibly dangerous act could have had very serious consequences.

A reckless act

If a dog had been placed in the enclosure without anyone noticing the kittens, the two little ones could have been injured, or even killed. The staff themselves were also put at risk when they found them. Rushing into a space designed for adult dogs poses a very real risk of injury.

The rescue centre speaks out

APAHD publicly expressed its anger at this irresponsible act in a social media post. The rescue centre reminded the public that it is exclusively dedicated to taking in dogs. It has no suitable facilities to house cats, no cattery, and no way to care for them on-site.

This kind of irresponsible dumping not only compromises the safety of the animals involved, but also that of the staff and the smooth running of the centre. The charity urges anyone with an unwanted litter, or who is unable to keep an animal, to contact the appropriate services or specialised rescue centres.
