As Hari Raya approaches, the excitement in Azril's eyes is palpable, yet tinged with a hint of sadness. The seven-year-old eagerly anticipates visiting his grandma in Kota Kinabalu (KK), Sabah, a tradition cherished during this festive season. However, this year holds uncertainty.

Azril's world has been touched by loss; his father's passing has left his family financially strained. His mother, determined to make ends meet, bakes at home to supplement their income. The possibility of affording the trip to KK hinges on the success of her Raya cake sales.

Despite their struggles, Azril's spirit remains hopeful. He dreams of using his Raya money to buy sweets at the shop in KK. But his mother has informed him that this year, their journey to KK may be thwarted.

"Why can't we go to KK, mummy?" Azril inquired innocently.

His mother explained that due to a boycott, they might not be able to afford the trip even if the cake sales go well. Bewildered, Azril sought understanding from his uncle, asking, “What's a boycott?”

The concept of a boycott was new to Azril. He learned that it involves refraining from buying goods from KK until certain changes are made. Curious, he probed further, “What changes?”

The boycott, initiated by some in the Muslim community, demands that KK stores cease selling socks bearing the name of Allah, a perceived disrespect that has offended many.

Puzzled, Azril questioned, “Can I still go to KK for Hari Raya?”

The answer remains uncertain. It depends on whether KK store owners will meet the demands set forth by the boycotters. The heart of a child, innocent and pure, yearns for the simple joy of a Raya visit, unaware of the complexities that cloud this year's journey.

In Azril's eyes, the prospect of visiting KK is not just about a trip; it's about connecting with family, celebrating tradition, and indulging in childhood delights. As adults navigate the complexities of a boycott, Azril's simple wish highlights the impact such actions have on innocent lives.
