After years of pandemic, COVID-19 continues to actively persist among us.

According to the latest statement from Malaysia’s Ministry of Health (KKM), there was a 57.3 per cent increase in new COVID-19 cases last week, totalling 3,626 compared to the previous week.

KKM also stated that hospital admissions saw a 2.9 per cent rise per 100,000 population, and the overall bed occupancy for non-critical cases increased by 0.9 per cent.

“Next, there are eight (8) active COVID-19 clusters reported, involving a total of 121 cases within these clusters. The cumulative total of reported clusters until Epidemiological Week 47/2023 is 7,248. The majority of the reported clusters are education clusters,” the statement adds.

Besides, Malaysia currently reports two cases of the Omicron subvariant BA.2.86. These cases have no history of travelling outside of the country for the past 14 days. They have been treated as outpatients and are in stable condition.

Despite the increase in COVID-19 cases, KKM assures that the situation is under control, and healthcare facilities are not strained.

Take care and stay tuned for more updates!
