KUALA LUMPUR - Kuala Lumpur city centre will be under total lockdown between October 26 and 28 during the Asean summit, which will see many world leaders including US president Donald Trump, Chinese premier Li Qiang and possibly Russian President Valdmir Putin congregating in Kuala Lumpur.
Civil servants will be allowed to work from home during that period while schools within a 25km radius of the city centre will be closed for lessons to be conducted online.
Foreign Affairs Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan said a series of meeting starting October 23, including the Asean summit on the 28th, will see hundreds of officials and heads of government attending.
The meetings will be held at the KLCC Convention Centre.
“Police will mobilise some 16,000 of its members from all over for the events to ensure safety and the order in the summit,” he told senior editors at the Concorde Club roundtable today.
The event is expected to engender protests especially against Trump.
The Asean summit, as well as the accompanying bilateral and partners meetings, will see a record number of heads of government ever hosted by Malaysia.
It is said some 1,700 press permits have been requested from media organisations world wide. - October 14, 2025
