KUALA LUMPUR — Police have crippled a drug trafficking syndicate operating in the capital and seized 18.5 kilogrammes of ‘bunga ganja’ (marijuana flower) worth RM553,500, following a sting by the Kuala Lumpur Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department.

Speaking to Scoop, KL police chief Datuk Fadil Haji Marsus said the arrests were made around 3.20pm on October 25, when a 47-year-old man and a 56-year-old woman were detained at a condominium car park in Jalan Klang Lama. “A search of their Proton Exora uncovered several packages containing marijuana flower weighing 18.5 kilogrammes in total,” he said.

"Initial investigations revealed that the syndicate had been active since August 2025, using the condominium car park as a discreet location for drug transactions.

The seized drugs could have supplied up to 37,000 users".

Fadil added that both suspects tested negative for drug use, but the male suspect has two prior criminal records — one under Section 380 of the Penal Code and another under Section 29 of the Minor Offences Act 1955.

The case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries the death penalty or life imprisonment, along with not fewer than 12 strokes of the cane upon conviction. Police also confiscated RM250 in cash, believed to be linked to the suspects, under the Dangerous Drugs (Forfeiture of Property) Act 1988.

“This success is the result of continuous intelligence work and strong cooperation from the public. PDRM will not compromise with anyone involved in drug trafficking, possession or protection of such activities,” Fadil said.

He urged the public to continue providing information on drug-related activities through the JSJN hotline at 012-208 7222. Both suspects have been remanded for six days, from October 26 to 31, to assist with investigations. - October 28, 2025
