Klang has worst air quality in Selangor, with 175 reading at noon

SHAH ALAM, Oct 14 - At 12pm, Johor’s Pasir Gudang had Malaysia’s worst Air Pollutant Index (API) readings at 177, as more areas started recording unhealthy scores again.

According to the API Management System (APIMS) portal, five out of Selangor’s six air quality monitoring stations had unhealthy readings, with Klang and Johan Setia’s 175 score followed by Banting and Shah Alam (162), and Petaling Jaya (156).

Only Kuala Selangor had a moderate reading at 91.

Schools under the Hulu Langat and Sepang District Education Offices (PPDs) were shut today to keep students and staff safe from the haze, the Selangor State Education Department (JPNS) said yesterday.

JPNS advised educators, parents and students to keep abreast of air quality developments and directives on school reopening dates.

Nearby, Kuala Lumpur’s Cheras and Batu Muda logged API readings of 170 and 164, respectively, while Putrajaya had an air quality score of 165.

In Johor, Segamat was the only one of its eight monitoring stations with a moderate reading at 93, with Pasir Gudang’s unhealthy 177 followed by Pengerang (168), Kota Tinggi (167), Larkin (165), Batu Pahat and Kluang (152), and Tangkak (146).

In Sarawak, two areas edged into the unhealthy category - Serian IPD (143) and Sri Aman (137).

Two towns meanwhile had good API readings - Perlis’ Kangar (49) and Kedah’s Langkawi (41).

An API reading of zero to 50 is good, 51 to 100 is moderate, 101 to 200 is unhealthy, 201 to 300 is very unhealthy, and anything above 300 is hazardous.
