Earlier, the Public Service Department (JPA) said that civil servants can still work from home (WFH) flexibly, especially during the 2025 ASEAN Summit.

Now, with the summit happening on May 26 and 27 at KLCC, the public is being encouraged to use public transport to help ease traffic.

KL civil servants and private workers are encouraged to WFH

According to BERNAMA, for the ASEAN-Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Summit and the ASEAN-GCC-China Economic Summit, some heads of government and state will be flying into Malaysia through either Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport (Subang) or Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) in Sepang.

Communications Minister and government spokesperson Fahmi Fadzil said some roads will be blocked off at certain times to make way for the movement of heads of state and government leaders, as reported by Utusan Malaysia.

He also said private companies, especially those in Kuala Lumpur, are encouraged to let their staff work from home during that time.

“The Cabinet was told that during President Xi Jinping’s recent visit, public transport usage went up by 50%. So for the summit, we’re encouraging the public to do the same and take public transport,” he added.

The 46th ASEAN Summit on May 26 will bring together all 10 ASEAN country leaders, and on May 27, they’ll be joined by leaders from the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC).
