Klarisse de Guzman mourns passing of mother

MANILA, Philippines — Singer Klarisse de Guzman is mourning the death of her mother, Esnobie de Guzman, sharing a heartfelt tribute on Instagram on Saturday.

The singer posted a black-and-white photo of her mother in what appeared to be a hospital room, accompanied by a message expressing her love and grief.

“Mahal na mahal kita, Mama ko. Iyakap mo na lang ako kay Papa ah. Mahal na mahal ko kayo,” de Guzman wrote in the caption.

The post drew an outpouring of condolences and messages of support from fellow celebrities and friends in the entertainment industry.

Singer Donny Pangilinan left a message saying, “Love you so much,” accompanied by a white heart emoji.

Singer and television host Gary Valenciano also expressed his sympathy, writing, “Oh Klarisse... deepest condolences. We love you,” followed by emojis of a crying face, folded hands, a broken heart and a dove.

Actress and former “Pinoy Big Brother: Celebrity Collab Edition” housemate Shuvee Etrata offered comfort to de Guzman, writing, “Mowm ko. I love you. Andito lang ako,” assuring the singer that she was there for her.

Other personalities who expressed their condolences included actors Jhong Hilario, Mavy Legaspi, Xyriel Manabat, Ashley Ortega, Kira Balinger, Ella Cruz, Isabel Oli Prats and Charlie Dizon, as well as singers Ogie Alcasid, Marlo Mortel, Bugoy Drilon and KZ Tandingan.

In a message shared through her Instagram broadcast channel earlier in the week, the singer wrote, “Namamanhid ako. I’m so scared. Pwede nyo po ba isama si Mama sa prayers nyo?”

Her family's situation also prompted Star Magic to announce that de Guzman would miss a scheduled appearance on “The Funalo Show LIVE” on Oct. 21 because of a family emergency.

De Guzman rose to prominence as the first runner-up in the inaugural season of “The Voice of the Philippines” in 2013. She later won the third season of “Your Face Sounds Familiar” in 2021 and joined “Pinoy Big Brother: Celebrity Collab Edition” in 2025.

In April 2025, her mother also drew public attention for expressing support for the singer after de Guzman openly discussed her sexuality during her stint on “Pinoy Big Brother.”
