After the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) Aerotrain system resumed operations on 1 July, it had apparently experienced problems 19 times within just 3 months.

These 19 glitches suffered by the KLIA Aerotrain system were recorded between 2 July and 30 September.

Technical issues and human factors behind the problems faced by the KLIA Aerotrain system

According to a report by Berita Harian, Deputy Transport Minister, Datuk Hasbi Habibollah, shared that the problems included technical issues and human factors, such as passengers attempting to open the doors.

“Repairs are always made and there are technical officers stationed on the train to ensure that, if anything happens, it can be repaired immediately,” he said.

There is improvement

He shared this in response to a question brought up by Jerantut Member of Parliament (MP) Khairil Nizam Khirudin in the Dewan Rakyat on the cause of the failure to maintain the KLIA Aerotrain system, which seems to be suffering breakdowns often.

He also asked about the Government’s immediate action to ensure that passenger transport at KLIA is smooth and safe.

“The overall availability of the Aerotrain operations since it began, until 8 October, is at 99.19%”

“Stability is improving, with the Aerotrains recording 100% operational service availability in the latest weeks, namely week 13 (28 September to 3 October) and week 14 (5 October to 10 October). As of 8 October, the new Aerotrain has transported 5.33 million passengers and recorded a journey of over 39,942km,” he explained.

Hasbi Habibollah also added that Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) is always working with the manufacturer and is ready to take action to ensure smooth operations.
