Border agents at KLIA seized 2,000 unregistered Diazepam tablets worth RM10,000, suspected to contain controlled psychotropic substances.
PUTRAJAYA: The Malaysian Border Control and Protection Agency (AKPS) has seized 2,000 units of unregistered medicines valued at RM10,000.
The contraband was discovered at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) Cargo Complex during an inspection yesterday.
A statement from AKPS said the package was suspected to contain psychotropic substances.
Detailed checks revealed the package contained 2,000 Diazepam 10mg tablets under the Valium brand.
The medicines are suspected to be unregistered with the Health Ministry’s Drug Control Authority.
They are also suspected of containing psychotropic substances listed under the Poisons Act 1952.
All items were seized for further investigation under the Control of Drugs and Cosmetics Regulations 1984.
The case is also being investigated under the Poisons (Psychotropic Substances) Regulations 1989.
“KLIA AKPS remains committed to strengthening controls and inspections at the country’s entry points,” the agency said.
Its goal is to prevent the entry of unregistered medicines and safeguard public health and safety.
