Following the arrest of the suspect in the shocking shooting case at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) in Kota Bharu, Kelantan yesterday, the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) has revealed more information on the case.

According to Bukit Aman Crime Investigation Department Datuk Seri Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain, the police found Saudi Riyal and Thai Baht banknotes on the suspect when he was apprehended.

As reported by Sinar Harian, PDRM thus doesn’t rule out the possibility that the suspect was planning to flee to Mecca in Saudi Arabia via Thailand. This is even more likely given his experience as a mutawwif or a guide of the Hajj and Umrah pilgrimage.

Furthermore, Shuhaily revealed that the suspect had also undergone a health examination at the Perdana Specialist Hospital in Kota Bharu a week before the shooting incident at KLIA.

Yesterday, the police arrested the suspect at the hospital at around 3pm after he showed up there to collect the health examination report. He was also found with a loaded Glock 19 Austria pistol with a single bullet during arrest.

PDRM added that it’s too early to tell whether the health examination was meant to be used for the visa requirement to enter Saudi Arabia.

Prior to the arrest, the suspect was in Saudi Arabia before going to Bangkok. He then entered our country via the Malaysia-Thailand border in Kelantan.

“I need 7 lawyers to represent me”

Earlier today, the suspect was remanded for 7 days following investigations under Section 8 of the Firearms (Increased Penalties) Act 1971 and Section 8(a) of the Arms Act 1960.

The remand order for 16 to 22 April was made at the Magistrate Court in Kota Bharu in front of Magistrate Rais Imran Hamid.

After the remand order, the suspect apparently wanted for 7 lawyers to represent him in court. He was quoted by Sinar Harian as saying,

“I need 7 lawyers to represent me.”
