KOTA KINABALU: Sabah’s long-established cooperative, Koperasi Pekerja-Pekerja Kerajaan Sabah Berhad (Kopeks), is addressing years of financial backlog while improving support for its members and retirees.

Kopeks Chairman Datuk Saat Ag Damit (pic) said the cooperative inherited RM5.2 million in unpaid retirement refunds involving 585 retirees, which are now being cleared through a structured monthly repayment plan.

He said 531 retirees have joined the scheme so far, with 41 accounts fully settled, as Kopeks continues to serve nearly 2,440 members through a RM31.6 million credit portfolio.

The cooperative is also diversifying its income through major ventures, including a 10.3-acre land development in Menggatal projected to generate RM30 million in profits and restore dividend payouts to 20 to 30 per cent within three years.

Saat added that Kopeks’ healthcare services, investment gains and strengthened Ar-Rahnu operations are helping build a more resilient future for members.
