
RANAU: A 59 year old Korean woman suffered breathing difficulties while scaling Mount Kinabalu.
Head of BBP PPgB Ranau, Ridwan Bin Mohd Taib said the incident happened in KM6, at the Panarlaban Sick Bay Mount Kinabalu, at about 9am.
“We received a call through the Station Line at 9.04am and a team of nine personnel from the Mount Kinabalu search and rescue team (Mosar) led by Operating Officer, PBKII KUP Domianus Bin Gidin rushed to the scene. When the team arrived at the location situated 200 meters from the Mosar post, we found a climber suffering from Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS) and had trouble breathing.
“The Mosar team with the help of Park SAR and Malim Gunung provided oxygen as an initial treatment. The victim was then brought down to Timpohon Gate using the Robinson Stretcher method,” he said.

It marked the 32nd victim of illness or injury on Mount Kinabalu so far this year.
Ridwan advised climbers to be extra careful during the current rainy season because the ground surface and rocks are more slippery than during normal weather.
“Always climb in groups, don't walk alone and make sure to be attentive to what the guides advise.
