MANILA, Philippines — South Korean singer-actor Cha Eun Woo is considering a new drama project as his comeback following his mandatory military service.
The ASTRO member is reportedly being considered for the male lead in a spinoff of the 2025 time-travel romance drama “Bon Appétit, Your Majesty,” according to a report by The Korea Times.
Cha Eun Woo’s agency, Fantagio, confirmed that the singer-actor was considering the project, which would be his first major acting role after completing his military duties.
The upcoming series will be set in the same universe as “Bon Appétit, Your Majesty” but will feature a different storyline, title and characters. Original stars Lim Yoon-a and Lee Chae-min are not expected to reprise their roles.
Cha Eun Woo, whose real name is Lee Dong-min, is currently serving his mandatory military service. He enlisted last year and was assigned to the Republic of Korea Army’s military band, where he serves as a corporal.
He is scheduled to complete his military service in January 2027.
If he accepts the role, the project would mark Cha Eun Woo’s return to acting after his military discharge and add another highly anticipated title to his growing drama portfolio.
“Bon Appétit, Your Majesty” follows French cuisine chef Yeon Ji-yeong, who travels back in time and finds herself face-to-face with a tyrannical king who has a refined taste for gourmet food.
Unlike the original drama, the planned spinoff will tell a separate story while remaining within the same fictional universe.
The potential project will also be Cha Eun Woo’s first drama following a tax-related controversy involving his financial affairs. South Korea’s National Tax Service previously noted that he was represented by Fantagio and a separate family-related company involving his mother.
Cha Eun Woo is known for starring in popular dramas including “My ID Is Gangnam Beauty,” “True Beauty” and “A Good Day to Be a Dog.” He has also maintained a successful career as a member of ASTRO.
With his military discharge expected in early 2027, fans will be watching closely to see whether Cha Eun Woo ultimately accepts the role and returns to the small screen through the “Bon Appétit, Your Majesty” spinoff.
