Kosovo President receives official welcome at Perdana Putra

PRESIDENT of Kosovo, Dr Vjosa Osmani Sadriu, was accorded an official welcome at the Perdana Putra complex today as she commenced a four-day official visit to Malaysia.

Bernama reported that Osmani arrived at 9am and was received by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, with the national anthems of both countries played shortly after.

She then inspected a guard of honour comprising three officers and 103 personnel from the First Battalion of the Royal Malay Regiment (Ceremonial), led by Major Muhammad Fikri Senan.

Also present were Deputy Prime Ministers Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof, Cabinet members, foreign diplomats, and senior government officials.

Following the ceremony, Osmani signed the guest book before holding a private meeting with Anwar.

Malaysia officially recognised Kosovo on October 30, 2008, becoming the first Asian country to do so, and diplomatic relations were formally established on March 18, 2011.

In 2024, bilateral trade between Malaysia and Kosovo reached RM28.55 million (USD6 million), with Malaysia exporting RM25.92 million (USD5.5 million) worth of goods—mainly palm oil, electrical and electronic products, and manufactured items—while imports from Kosovo, totalling RM2.63 million (USD550,000), consisted largely of raw materials and gemstones. - May 2, 2025
