One more woman has died after developing complications following a cesarean delivery at JK Lone Hospital, taking the total number of such deaths in the district to four in the past week.

The woman was identified as Pinki Mahawar (30), wife of Chandra Prakash, a daily wage labourer.

She is the second woman to have lost her life following a C-section at the JK Lone Hospital in the last 24 hours. The other two cases were reported from the New Medical College Hospital (NMCH).

Pinki was admitted on May 7 at JK Lone Hospital. But her condition allegedly deteriorated the following day, and she underwent another surgery and was put on a ventilator.

“She underwent a C-section late at night the same day and delivered the baby. However, her condition started deteriorating the next day, May 8. Doctors said her uterus suffered an infection, requiring surgery. They then conducted another surgery within 15 hours," Prakash said.

He alleged that the uterus was kept in a box, right next to Pinki’s bed, saying that the medical staff was supposed to send it for testing, but they didn’t.

Prakash alleged negligence in her treatment and claimed that she wasn’t referred to a higher medical centre until she became critical on May 10.

He said that around 8.30 pm, the medical staff of JK Lone Hospital shifted her to an ambulance from the back gate of the facility and sent her to the NMCH’s Super Speciality Block, where she died during treatment.

NMCH Principal, Dr Nilesh Jain, told PTI that Pinki died around 12.30 am on the intervening night of Sunday and Monday.

“Deceased Pinki Mahawar was a high-risk patient since the initial stage of pregnancy," Jain said, adding that her body has been handed over to the police for a post-mortem.

The state government has sent a high-level committee and is taking inspection of the JK Lone hospital, he further said.

The family members, accompanied by Congress workers led by the party’s Kota unit president, staged a protest at JK Lone Hospital over alleged laxity in her treatment.

Pinki is the fourth woman to have lost her life in post-delivery complications in recent days.

Earlier, 22-year-old Priya Mahawar died after developing a kidney infection post C-section in JK Lone Hospital on the intervening night of May 9 and May 10.

Before her, two other women, Payal (26) and Jyoti Nayak (19), died on May 5 and May 7, respectively, in the New Medical College Hospital.

Meanwhile, six other infected women, who are currently being treated at the NMCH’s SSB ward, are said to be in critical condition.
