Kota Kinabalu International Airport refurbishes 26 toilet facilities for RM11.8 million to upgrade ageing infrastructure and handle high passenger traffic.
KOTA KINABALU: The RM11.8 million refurbishment of 26 toilet facilities at Kota Kinabalu International Airport (KKIA) is part of ongoing efforts to upgrade the ageing terminal.
Malaysia Airports stated the project involved a full-scope upgrade to ensure uninterrupted operations at the over-two-decades-old facility.
The renovation covered 196 toilet cubicles, including 25 for persons with disabilities, four baby care rooms and 26 janitor storerooms.
Work included the complete strip-out and replacement of plumbing and sanitary systems, alongside drainage and mechanical upgrades.
It also involved improved accessibility features and the installation of fittings designed for high-traffic use.
Phase One of the renovation was completed in March 2025, with Phase Two scheduled for completion this April.
The upgrades aim to ensure KKIA remains safe, functional and fit for purpose amid sustained passenger demand.
The terminal serves millions of passengers annually, with its facilities subject to heavy and continuous use.
